My name:

Anna Mace

My job:

Managing Director

Who I work for:

Sound Wave Marketing Ltd

A bit about my job:

My role is to design, develop and plan for the company in the most cost effective and time efficient manner. This means I am responsible for both the day-to-day running of the company and developing business plans for our long term future. I am here to motivate and lead staff, ensure we comply with legal regulations and I have an active role in the sales side of the business.

How I got it / Qualifications needed

I went to school at St Clements High in Norfolk followed by Sixth Form at Springwood High School. I had a part time job with Debenhams as a supervisor in the Accessories department from age 16-18. Due to health reasons I gave up my place at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University at age 18 and after a year or so went to work as a Customer Manager for a well known bank. I still harboured the desire to study for a degree so, after completing an Access course at the College of West Anglia in 2003, I went to Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge University to study Law BA Hons. Whilst following this path I met my husband who is a Commercial Audio Producer. Although I studied Law I do not wish to practice and instead my husband and I decided we would work together. We started the company in 2006 aimed at other businesses, combining audio, graphic and web design, and the business has grown rapidly since.

What I earn:

Over £30,000

Anything else?

I thoroughly enjoy the sales side of my job, a skill I developed whilst working in the bank. It involves meeting people who have careers and are part of industries I would otherwise know nothing about and providing the design solutions which are tailored to the particular businesses need; whether it be a new look, web site or radio commercial for example. Every project is a new challenge. The running of the company is also enjoyable because you can be proactive in which ever direction is best for the business.

My least favourite part is dealing with administrative tasks as I prefer to be hands on dealing with clients or working with the staff, but it has to be done properly to ensure a well run company.
