My name:
Jack McCoughlin
My job:
Trainee Quantity Surveyor
Who I work for:
Mansell Construction Services
A bit about my job:
A Quantity Surveyor has complete Financial Control of the Construction Project. They also have to make sure every thing is going to plan and that the project keeps to the original price, to make sure the contractor makes sufficient profit.
How I got it/ Qualifications needed
I went to King Edward VII School where I achieved 9 GCSEs at grade C and above. While in Year 10 I came to Mansell Construction Services for a two week work experience. Because I was enjoying it so much I increased it to four weeks.
I also went to Sixth form at King Edward VII School where I studied Economics & Business and P.E. I went back to Mansell Construction again in Sixth form for another 2 weeks work experience which I again increased to four weeks.
While on these work experiences I had discussed with the Director ways in which to get a job at Mansell. So when I was starting to come to the end of my last year at sixth form, I applied for a job with Mansell for the Trainee Position.
What I earn:
£15,000 - £20,000
Anything else?
I mostly enjoy having the financial control and the challenge of keeping the project to price and plan.
I least like the amount of paperwork that has to be filled in sometimes to get things done.
