My name:

Samantha

My job:

Personal Banker

Who I work for:

Barclays Bank

A bit about my job:

I deal with the public on a day to day basis, and it can range from opening accounts for people, setting up loans for customers, advising customers on which financial products would be best for them and their needs, and also dealing with general account enquires and changes and also customer complaints.

How I got it / Qualifications needed

I went to KES and left with 8 GCSE’s. After college I went to do Hairdressing at The College of West Anglia, but decided after a time that the course and hairdressing was not the right career for me. I then got a job as an Office Junior in an Accountant where I was quickly promoted to Receptionist. I was then was offered another job in an Independent Financial Advisors as an Administration Assistant/Receptionist. I was employed here for 2 years.

I then applied for, and was offered a job at Woolwich Building society as a Cashier.  I have worked in banking ever since, and have now worked by way up to Personal Banker.  The Woolwich was taken over by Barclays, and I am now employed by Barclays Bank in Kings Lynn.

What I earn:

£15,000 - £20,000

Anything else?

I enjoy my job and the hours I work, which are 9-5 Monday-Friday and I obviously also get bank holidays off! I enjoy meeting different customers on a daily basis, which makes every day different, and keeps the job a bit exciting. Although this can also prove to be hard work and challenging as not every customer is a happy one.

I also have to deal with complaints, which is my least favourite part of my job, but when I do manage to resolve a complaint to customer’s satisfaction, it then becomes a positive part of my job.
